PROJECT 2 - TENSILE STRUCTURE
The objectives of this project are as follows:
To create an understanding of building components used and its assembly.
To demonstrate good drawing skills in building details and how it reacts under loading and force.
To be able to manipulate the selection of materials used and ensure its buildability.
In a small group of three, we were tasked with studying a tensile structure, and to show the results of the study via two A2 boards as well as an model structure showing the joints, forces, construction and detailing of the selected structure. My group chose to do the Milennium Dome, now known as the O2, designed by Richard Rogers. The model was built on an A3 MDF board, and made out of modeling board, fabric, wires, fishing string and some bits of pieces we found lying around.
The A2 boards showed force analysis of the building, as well as details of specific joints and finishes that were present on the building. It summarizes how the building functions as a tensile structure, along with construction details and processeses.
