PROJECT 1 - TIMELINE OF MODERN ARCHITECTURE IN MALAYSIA

This research project adopts document analysis methodology that involves documenting, analyzing, producing, and presenting orally a critical chronological interpretation of Modern Malaysian architectural history. This project emphasizes critical analysis of the post Merdeka/Independance of Malaysian architecture in the effort to understand the influences of post-modernism to architectural design and construction, building science and technology, and urban design.

Modern architecture is typically depicted in the form of Western designs. Flipping through a picture book of modern architecture you'd expect to find lots of Corbusiers, Miesseses, Gropi and perhaps a few Franks and a few Wrights. These masterpieces are all well and good, but what about the other half of the world? How about Malaysia?

In this assignment, the entire tutorial group headed by Ms Patmaselvi is divided into several smaller 5 man groups. These smaller groups are then given a site that's inside the North-West quadrant of Kuala Lumpur, and are then tasked to find a research about the significant examples of Modern architecture in their respective areas.

After that was done, all the research data and information was then compiled into one massive poster.

The result of this assignment is one extremely long (10 x A3 wide) poster, done on computer using Photoshop.
