PROJECT 2a - TAMAN KANAGAPURAM SITE ANALYSIS
The objectives of this project are as follows:
-
To develop awareness of environmental sustainability in architectural design
-
To develop the student’s ability to meet the imperative and inter-related environmental and social needs, as well as make poetry with the buildings
-
To emphasize on space planning of clusters of building
Learning Outcomes
-
Apply ideas of environmental sustainability in design
-
Design and create architectural spaces with consideration of environmental poetics in relation to the basic natural context and existing built context which impact on users’ experiences
-
Combine the environmental needs, the site (site topography, history and socio-cultural events), and the users’ experiences within simple building design in the open landscape/suburban context.
-
Produce drawings (both 2D and 3D), modelling and verbal presentation to communicate and visualize architectural design and ideas based on clustered spatial typology
Within our tutorial groups, we are to create a board that showcases our analysis of the site that we will be using to design our elderly day care. The site is in Taman Kanagapuram, and is located just off the Old Klang Road. This site features plenty numerous elderly nursing homes in its vicinity, and thus is typically quaint and quiet during the day.
With this site analysis, we have analysed the objective qualities of the site. However, as each of us have a different overall subjective takeaway, we are also to do, individually, a board that shows the visceral or gut feelings that we felt at the site.

The above is my visceral board, which shows the solitude, lack of direction and perceived pointlessness that I felt whilst I was on site. Using this visceral representation, I was able to then respond to this perceived site outlook in my design for the elderly day care.
