In group of 2, you are to design an Observation Deck (with a maximum volume of 30m3 ) for the purpose of observing the views. It shall include other activity(s) such as meditation, relaxation, etc. in which furniture and equipment must fit and be incorporated into the design. This structure should correspond to the site that you have chosen. Adequate access, circulation and fenestration are mandatory..

This project introduces us to the use of the site in our design. After completing our site analysis, we are now tasked, in groups of two, to build a simple observation deck on a site of our choosing. I am grouped with Tristan Yu, and we chose a jungle beach, where the vast contrast between the thickness of the jungle and the openness of the sea offers an interesting perspective.

The observation deck shouldn't be too large. After all, it is nothing more than that. Our approach to this brief was to ask ourselves two simple questions: 1. What can we do to make an observation deck more interactive? 2. What can we do bring out the most out of the views?

In regards to both questions, we answered them in designing an unorthodox design of an observation deck. Instead of a typical platform with views to look out from, we created an interactive sculpture, where users can climb and explore the deck itself, and thus experience the sense of discovery and exploration that is so invocative of the site.

We created a multitude of study models. The final submission includes: the final model, several 1:50 drawings, and a diagrammatic board explaining the concept.
